Natural Burials is a not for profit voluntary organisation based
in New
Zealand.
We created and oversee the Wellington and New Plymouth Natural
Burial Cemeteries.
We promote, certify and monitor cemeteries,
casket makers and funeral directors for their adherance to our standards,
and advise consumers on their rights.
We are
working on
the creation
of natural cemeteries across the country (list of all NZ natural cemeteries here).
- Register in advance for a plot in Wellington, and get a free living
will, here.
- Learn more about the concept of natural burials and cemeteries, here.
- Check whether your local cemetery, funeral directors or preferred
casket is certified by us - check the panel on the right
Being buried naturally means nature’s own processes
to do their work, returning your body to the soil completely in only
a matter of years.
Your financial and bodily contribution helps restore the cemetery into
a beautiful native forest or ecosystem suited to the location, which
will
stay that way in perpetuity.
We offer consulting to Councils for a small
fee to
help
them set up cemeteries. We are uniquely qualified. Since we were
formed in 1999, we have undertaken
the most scientific research ever conducted by one organisation
into issues
related to burials. Also, look through our website for information on
- obtaining
our popular "Natural Will" pack
- ideas
for greening a traditional burial,
Thanks for your interest in our work.
